Disorders Of The Sebaceous (Oil) Glands

Comedomes , Blackheads, Milia, White heads, Acne, Cysts, Pimples, Furuncle (Boil), Seborrhea (excessive secretion of sebaceous glands), Rosacea, Steatoma (A tumor of the sebaceous gland ranging in size from an orange to a pea).

What are Oil Glands?

An Oil Gland consist of little sacs, whose ducts open into the hair follicle. These glands are found on all parts of the body, especially the face.

What is Sebum?

A semi-fluid. Which after a process of oil produced by the oil glands, hardens and becomes blocked forming a blackhead.

Acne

A chronic inflammatory disorder of the skin, usually related to hormonal changes, genetics, overactive sebaceous glands. Acne appears in a variety of different types, and can occur on any part of the face, chest back, shoulders, buttocks, legs and arms. Acne affects woman, men, teenagers, some small children as well.

Comedomes

Closed comedomes: White Heads- Disorder of the sebaceous glands

Open comedomes: Black Heads- A plug of sebaceous matter and dirt

Scarring

There are three types of Acne scars: Ice pick, Acne Pit, and Raised Scars

Rosacea

It is often referred to as adult acne, or acne Rosacea. As the skin condition progresses, small blood vessels and tiny pimples begin to appear. The blood vessels eventually become dilated and the skin is continually red. The redness can come and go, however it may become permanent. The nose and cheeks are the most frequently affected. Rosacea is more common in adult females than in males.

Milia

Whiteheads that look like small grains of sand under the skin.

Cystic Acne

When a follicle ruptures deep within the dermis. Large, hard, and painful lumps underneath the surface of the skin begin to appear. A cyst is a severe pimple that takes a longer time to reach the surface of the skin.

Back Acne

YES, some women and men suffer with papules, pustules, cysts, and come domes only on their back. Let us help you manage this with proper treatment.

Papules/Pustules

Papules/Pustules- A papule is a small pimple in the skin containing no fluid, but can develop pus.

A pustule is an elevation of the skin having an inflamed base, containing pus.

Nodular

These are the most extreme lesions seen in acne. They are large inflammatory lesions that contain large amounts of pus. This type of acne is prone to scarring.

Teenage Acne

Close to 100% of people between the ages of 12-19 experience some form of acne even if it's an occasional spot. In some cases, millions of adolescents have severe acne, and require treatment. If left untreated, facial and emotional scarring sets in. Don't wait or think you'll grow out of it, some people do, others not so lucky.

Adult Acne

Some people get acne for the first time as adults. WHY? Several factors can be a possibility. Heredity, hormonal changes in the body, medications taken, and emotional stress.

Melasma

A patchy or generalized dark pigmentation of the skin. A tan discoloration of a woman's face that is associated with pregnancy ( or pregnancy mask), as well with the use of oral contraceptives. Excessive sun exposure can also cause dark brown patches on the skin over a period of time. Ever thought it looks like you have a moustache on your lip?

Left untreated will get darker with time, and make you look older. Very common in woman, you're not alone.

Vitiligo

Pigment cells are destroyed and irregular white patches on the skin result. Cause is unknown.

Small blood vessels that are located near the surface of the skin and have expanded, becoming visible. When the wall ruptures, blood then seeps out and flows down along the pathway surrounding the capillaries. When the blood dries the result is a web like bruising.

How do your Medical Grade peels differ from other chemical peeling agents?

In the past chemical peeling agents were primarily phenol and trichloroacetic acid (TCA).
